Power of Maa Brahmcharini
A
Nostalgic Look at Navratri and the Power of Maa Brahmcharini #Navratri
#MaaBrahmcharini
As a child, the beginning of
Navratri was magical. Walking past the market and neighborhood temples, I'd be
mesmerized by the creation of Maa Durga's idols. The festival's fervor always
captivated me, and I loved hopping from pandal to pandal, marveling at the
magnificent displays.
Today marks the second day of
Navratri, dedicated to Maa Brahmcharini, the second form of the divine Maa
Parvati. "Brahma" signifies penance, and "Charini" means
conduct. Worshipping Maa Brahmcharini on this day is believed to cultivate
resilience, patience, and determination within us. Her blessings empower us to
overcome challenges and stay true to our values.
The day begins with devotees rising
during Brahma Muhurta for a purifying bath. The puja space is cleansed with
Gangajal, and families gather to worship Maa Brahmcharini. Offerings of jasmine
flowers, rice, and sandalwood are placed in a Kalash (sacred metal pot) before
the idol.
After bathing and adorning the idol
with jasmine flowers, roli, and kumkum, devotees might offer an abhishek (holy
bath) of milk, curd, and honey. To mark the occasion, you can say, "May
Maa Brahmcharini shower her blessings upon you and your loved ones for a
virtuous and disciplined life, filled with happiness." #HappyNavratri
The second day's color is green,
representing nature, renewal, and positive energy. It's believed to inspire
peace. Wearing green aligns devotees with Maa Brahmcharini's calm and devoted
nature. However, Maa Brahmcharini's own color is red, symbolizing passion and
love.
This day also celebrates the
unmarried form of Goddess Parvati, known for her unwavering dedication in
winning Lord Shiva as her husband. The color green signifies growth, fertility,
peace, and serenity. Each Navratri color corresponds to a different form of Maa
Durga, embodying virtues like strength, tranquility, and devotion. By wearing
these colors, devotees pay homage to the goddess and celebrate her divine
feminine energy, which vanquishes darkness and brings forth light and
positivity.
As some puja societies begin their
festivities with Dandiya dances and plays, I take this opportunity to wish all
my readers a joyous #HappyNavratri!
