Celebrating
Inner Strength and Peace: Welcoming Maa Chandraghanta on Day 3 of Navratri
#MaaChandraghanta #Navratri
Today marks the third day of
Shardiya Navratri, a time to celebrate the divine feminine through the nine
forms of Maa Durga. On this auspicious occasion, we welcome Maa Chandraghanta,
a powerful and benevolent embodiment of strength and inner peace.
A Warrior Queen with a Gentle Heart
Depicted riding a mighty tigress
with ten arms, Maa Chandraghanta exudes immense power. Her four right hands
hold a lotus flower, arrow, bow, and prayer beads, symbolizing calmness, focus,
and spiritual connection. The fifth right hand offers blessings in the Abhaya
Mudra, a gesture of fearlessness. The four left hands wield a trident, mace,
sword, and a water pot, showcasing her fierce warrior spirit. Yet, her fifth
left hand displays the Varada Mudra, signifying the granting of boons.
The Significance of the Half Moon
Maa Chandraghanta, also known as Maa
Gauri, is believed to be the married form of Maa Parvati. After her union with
Lord Shiva, she adorned her forehead with a half-moon, or "Chandra."
This unique feature not only lends her the name Maa Chandraghanta but also
symbolizes the peaceful transformation of Maa Parvati.
Dispelling Darkness with the Sound
of Purity
Legend tells us that the combined
sound of the moon ornament and the bell on Maa Chandraghanta's forehead can
banish negativity. During her battles with demons, the powerful sound of her
bell is said to have vanquished countless evil forces. Devotees who seek her
blessings are believed to receive unwavering strength and the courage to
overcome life's challenges.
Celebrating with Devotion and Color
On this special day, devotees rise
early, clad in vibrant orange attire. The color orange, associated with Maa
Chandraghanta, represents the warmth and joy she bestows upon her followers. An
idol of the Goddess is placed on the altar, adorned with beautiful yellow
flowers like lotuses and jasmine. Offerings of Panchamrit, a sweet concoction
of five elements, and Mishri (rock candy) are made, along with a special Kheer
(rice pudding) bhog (offering).
Embracing the Power of Chanting
As devotees chant the powerful
mantra "Om Devi Chandraghantayai Namah" and recite the stotram
"Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu Maa Chandraghanta Rupena Samsthita, Namastasayi
Namastasayi Namastasayi Namo Namah," they invoke the blessings of courage,
inner strength, and the ability to overcome obstacles.
A Day of Vibrancy and Harmony
While the red color on Maa
Chandraghanta's attire signifies her fierce strength, devotees are encouraged
to wear vibrant yellow or red themselves, symbolizing joy, optimism, and
resilience. To further enhance the beauty of the puja, garlands of marigolds or
red flowers like Udhul are recommended.
May the blessings of Maa
Chandraghanta fill your heart with unwavering strength and guide you towards
inner peace. Let the spirit of Navratri illuminate your path with positivity
and determination.
