Lodh Waterfall – Nature’s Roar Amidst the Forest 🌿💧

As the world celebrated World Photography Day, the Jharkhand Photographic Association (JPA) marked the occasion with a two-day photography outing on August 18 and 19 at the enchanting hill station of Netarhat. With transport, food, and a luxurious resort accommodation arranged for nearly 70 participants, the offer was irresistible—and I immediately signed up.

Known as the “Queen of Chotanagpur”, Netarhat is a serene escape tucked away in Jharkhand. It is celebrated for its captivating sunrises and sunsets, dense pine forests, cool climate, and breathtaking waterfalls. Tourists from across India flock here to witness its celestial charm, especially at Magnolia Point, where the sunsets are nothing short of magical. The place is not only rich in natural beauty but also in biodiversity, with Jharkhand now promoting it as an eco-tourism hub.

Among its many wonders, the crown jewel is the Lodh Waterfall, also known as Budha Ghagh. Standing at 143 meters (469 feet), it is the tallest waterfall in Jharkhand and ranks 21st in India. Nestled deep within the Palamu Tiger Reserve in Latehar district, this majestic fall is formed by the Burha River and surrounded by pristine forests teeming with flora and fauna. The monsoon months (July–October) make it even more spectacular as the water gushes with unmatched force.

Our journey to Lodh Waterfall was no less adventurous. Forest authorities stopped vehicles about 1.5 km before the falls, forcing us to trek 5–6 km on rugged terrain. Carrying two cameras, a heavy tripod, and an umbrella made it even more challenging—but thanks to the support of my fellow JPA members, who shared my equipment load, I made it to the viewpoint. And there it was—the mighty waterfall, cascading down in all its glory, a sight that left me spellbound.

I set up my gear and captured a few frames of this roaring beauty. Sharing one such moment here with you all—a glimpse of Lodh Waterfall in its monsoon majesty.
