Today, August 04, marks the last
Somvari (Monday) of the auspicious month of Sawan, a sacred period
dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. This day holds deep significance
for devotees, who throng temples to offer prayers, perform rituals, and seek
blessings.
Young girls especially observe the
tradition of worshipping the Shiva Linga with turmeric paste and milk,
praying for an ideal life partner like Lord Shiva. Many devotees also observe Rudrabhishek,
fasting, and mantra chanting, as this day is considered especially powerful
for gaining blessings in health, marital harmony, and spiritual growth.
✨ It is believed that Lord Shiva is
easily pleased on this day and grants boons to his devotees. To enhance the
positive effects, people are advised to donate white items such as milk,
sugar, sweets, and clothes—representing the moon and symbolizing peace and
tranquility.
Benefits
of Observing Somvari Fasts 🌿
- Fulfillment of wishes and desires
- Stronger marital bond and harmony
- Removal of past sins and karmic debt
- Protection from negative energies
- Attainment of inner peace and spiritual growth
Throughout Sawan, devotees practice
strict fasting rituals—some consuming only one meal after puja, others
observing a full-day fast until moonrise. Meals are prepared in pure forms,
avoiding onion, garlic, non-vegetarian food, grains, and processed items.
Instead, light and natural foods are consumed, including sabudana khichdi,
kuttu atta rotis, makhana kheer, and seasonal fruits.
In Ranchi, the sacred Sureshwar
Temple at Chutia, home to a magnificent 108-feet Shiva Linga,
witnessed huge crowds today. Devotees, despite the rush, stood patiently
shoulder to shoulder for a glimpse (darshan) of Lord Shiva and to
perform puja.

🙏 On this final Somvari of
Sawan, may Lord Shiva bless everyone with health, peace, and happiness.
