Jharkhand Shivers Under Cold Wave Spell
Jharkhand Shivers Under Cold Wave Spell #WinterWoes
#StayWarm
Jharkhand is
feeling the bite of a harsh cold wave, with Ranchi and other districts
experiencing bone-chilling temperatures. While everyone would rather stay
bundled up at home, many residents, especially daily wage earners, have to
brave the elements to get to work.
Double Trouble: The piercing wind and intermittent
rain make navigating the roads, especially on two-wheelers, a daunting task.
School children are mostly staying indoors, but the real challenge falls on
rickshaw pullers, cart pullers, and daily wage laborers.
The Culprit: This icy grip is a result of heavy
snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, where temperatures have plummeted to a
bone-chilling -25°C and are expected to dip further. The effect ripples across
the northern plains, bringing rain to states like New Delhi, Punjab, UP, and
Jharkhand.
Westerly Woes: A weather phenomenon called a westerly
disturbance, a non-monsoon storm originating in the Mediterranean, is
responsible for this winter chill. It brings rain and snowfall to the Indian
subcontinent, particularly affecting North India, Pakistan, and Nepal with
sudden dips in temperature. Rajasthan is expected to be hit first, followed by
other northern states.
Beyond the Shivers: Westerly disturbances have a
double-edged sword effect. While they bring much-needed precipitation for Rabi
crops, their intensity can also damage them. Weathermen have also issued
warnings for fishermen to stay out of the Bay of Bengal until December 12th due
to the disturbance.
Staying Safe in
the Cold: Jharkhand,
along with parts of Bihar and the Northeastern states, are under a yellow alert
for inclement weather. Here are some tips to stay safe during this cold wave:
- Stay Indoors & Hydrated: Dress warmly, stay indoors as
much as possible, and keep yourself hydrated with warm drinks like herbal
tea, green tea, lemon tea, and soups.
- Prepare for Winter: Get your vehicles winter-ready,
insulate pipes to prevent freezing, and identify emergency heat sources
like fireplaces or properly ventilated stoves.
- Help Others: Check in on elderly neighbors and
vulnerable communities who might need extra assistance during this time.
Winter Blues? While this cold snap might have you
dreaming of warmer climes, remember, there are ways to stay safe and even enjoy
the winter season. Bundle up, stay warm, and take care of yourself and those
around you.
