A Candid Glimpse: Love on the Platform
A Candid Glimpse: Love on the Platform #travelphotography
While on
assignment in Madhya Pradesh, a chance encounter at a train station piqued my
interest. A young couple, their expressions hinting at a bittersweet goodbye,
stood on the platform. Intrigued by the unspoken emotions in their body
language, I reached for my camera and captured a candid moment that embodied
the essence of being "amorous" - having strong feelings of love,
especially romantic love.
The
Universality of Love: From Railways to Temples
The word
"amorous" has roots going back to Middle English, but the concept of
love transcends language and time. We see it reflected in various cultures,
including ancient India. Here, erotic art adorns the facades of some temples,
sparking debate. Some view it as progressive and passionate, while others
consider it vulgar.
Exploring
the Symbolism: Unveiling the Deeper Meaning
These
depictions, often found on the exterior walls, are not merely about physical
pleasure. They represent Tantric traditions, which view sensuality as a
transcendental energy leading to a spiritual path.
A Journey
Through Erotic Art: A Glimpse into History
Temples like
Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, the Virupaksha temple in Hampi, and the Sun Temple
in Modhera showcase this unique form of art. Even Jain temples like Ranakpur
bear witness to similar aesthetics. The Ajanta and Elora caves in Maharashtra,
and the lesser-known Nepali Temple in Bihar, also feature sensuous carvings.
Notably, Bhutan's Punakha Dzong, a fertility temple, showcases phallus symbols,
reflecting a different cultural approach to seeking blessings for children.
Love: A
Universal Force
This amorous
energy isn't just for humans; it's present throughout the natural world. #travelphotography
