Celebrating Gurus

Celebrating Gurus: A Reflection on Mentorship

Guru Purnima, a day dedicated to honoring spiritual guides and teachers, falls on July 21st, 2024, this year. It serves as a timely reminder to express gratitude to those who have shaped our lives.

Early Lessons: The Foundation of Respect

As a child, I possessed an abundance of curiosity and a penchant for exploration. However, this often translated into restlessness, hindering my focus on studies and respect for elders. My childhood was characterized by playful escapades, leading to reprimands and occasional parental discipline. Today, with a heart filled with appreciation, I recognize my parents as my first Gurus. They instilled in me valuable lessons of courtesy, cultural values, and respectful conduct towards others.

One distinct memory I hold dear is my father's insistence on instilling a love for language. He subscribed to an English newspaper, prompting me to read and memorize a minimum of five new words daily. While this routine might have felt like a chore at times, it fostered a lifelong habit of vocabulary building.

A Learning Journey: From Fatherly Guidance to Professional Inspiration

An anecdote from my childhood further exemplifies this learning process. During a train journey with my family, we encountered a station named "Fatwa" in English and "Fatuha" in Hindi. As children, we mistakenly pronounced it as the latter. My father patiently corrected us, emphasizing the importance of accurate pronunciation. This seemingly trivial incident instilled the importance of meticulous observation and accurate information retention.

My educational journey culminated in a career in photography. Fueled by a passion for the craft, I delved into books, periodicals, and sought guidance from experienced mentors. These individuals, including Tarit Da, Manik Da, and Raghu Rai Sir, A.J.Philip Sir  who played a pivotal role in shaping my skills and propelling me forward in this profession. They remain a constant source of inspiration.

Gratitude for the Guiding Light

Guru Purnima serves as a beautiful reminder of the profound impact mentors have on our lives. From our parents who provide the foundational values to educators who nurture our intellect, and the experienced professionals who guide our career paths, each individual plays a vital role in shaping our journey.

This article, along with a picture of my parents, is a heartfelt tribute to those who have illuminated my path.
