Pelicans Feeding
I use to see regularly a huge bird in white,
sailing in the sky very cool, calm, smoothly and noiselessly, if they pass
besides you, you can’t hear their any snoise and surprised to see their
splendid flying pattern. So I came to know from my son that those are called
Pelicans and there is a feeding point of Pelicans near Sydney about 1 hr train
journey and from there 1 hr by bus. So one day we went to see that live
phenomena. We took a train from Hemilton station and dropped at Woy Woy and
from there we caught a bus and reached thereby at 11:30 Am. I saw lot of large
birds flying around in groups and their activities attracting people. As we
reached very early there, I came to know that the feeding time is 3:30 PM, so
just to pass the time we also moved around the beautiful suburb and in the
amusement park.
Those birds just spread their large wings and
fly like a big jet liner. They are mostly found near coastal areas and thrive
on fishes in shallower sea, tadpoles, crustaceans etc. but they are opportunist
also as they also grab the items or handouts given by the humans. As I am a
nature lover and use to shoot nature, so seeing their attractive activities I
got ready with my cameras and started clicking and got few telling shots.
The Pelicans have large wings about 9’ feet
in white, so they find it difficult in taking off sometimes. Its fingers of the
legs are webbed like duck legs which give them thrust while sailing on water. So
by 3’O clock the large birds started arriving from different directions and converging
at their feeding area. Exact at 3:30 PM, the staff of Marine wildlife Rescue
Central Coast started feeding them and they all made jostling like situation
but as this is a daily affair so staffs know the tricks of feeding and fed
almost all the birds within ½ hrs, it was a spectacular scenario for all the
visitors.
