Palamu Fort
Palamu
Fort
About 20 Kms from Daltonganj there
is a sanctuary called Betla National Park, under the purview of Palamu Tiger Reserve, where ruins of
Medini Nagar Quila, popularly known as ( Palamu Quila or fort) is situated. The
main station Daltonganj is about 171 Kms from Ranchi. Long time back once I had
been there and stayed in a beautiful Tree house in Betla National Park which
was kept reserved by one of my friend Saikat Chatterjee, who is a performer
artist and an excellent photojournalist.
One the bank of Oranga River about 3
Kms from Betla National Park the ruins
of Palamu forts are located, which falls in the Indian State of Jharkhand. Even before the Chero dynasty this quila was
made by king Rakshel dynasty. The fort in plain was built by Chero dynasty with
three main gates with three defensive arrangements. The new fort in the
surroundings of hills is built by Raja Medini Roy, it is a twin ruined forts
situated southeast of the cities deep into the jungle of Medini Nagar.
Interested people want to visit these
places then at first one has to go to Daltonganj, from there a jeep or cab can
be booked. For staying if anybody is interested to spend the time in the calm
and quiet serenity of the jungle then one has to book tree house in advance
through ITDC, Jharkhand or online through Palamu
Tiger Reserve site as it is high in demand. For food there are lots of
joints where one can find mouth watering meals in upper category as well as
food of rustic tinge are tastefully made by the villagers with boiled hot rice
with chicken or fish curries, I preferred the rustic meals.
