Brabar Caves
Barabar
Caves
Long time
back I was in Gaya and covering some stories, then I came to know that there is
an ancient surviving rock caves about 75 Kms South of Patna. So one day I
chalked out a programmed to visit that unique rocks and set out for the same.
While reaching there I found to my dismay after seeing the unique rock caves
formations just near the Falgu River. While moving around I came to know that
there are four caves—
1.
Karan Chaupar,
2.
Lomas Rishi
3.
Sudama and the
4.
Vishwakarma
A unique caves built by cutting a single
rock during Maurya period is of 3rd Century A.D. The oldest
surviving rocks situated Makdumpur area of Jehenabad district is 25 Kms North of
Gaya district of Bihar. As folklore goes it is built by Emperor Ashoka for his
Ajivika ascetic so it is also called Buddhists sect caves. While moving around
the caves my eyes became wide to see the uniqueness of the caves. On some wall
ancient Buddhists scripts are engraved. There are some unique entrances, the
walls are cut very minutely and polished like mirror image can be formed for
this the artisans of those period had used sand stones to make the wall shiny and
smooth to touch, and in intense heat it was giving cool feeling inside the
rocks. The caves are shaped after cutting hard Granite stones, so it is still
standing after facing lot of adverse weathers all through these periods.
